(Read More) DEP Grants to Dresden and Whitefield Benefits Habitats and Roads The Town of Dresden will receive $84,600 in Water Bond funds toward funding of a culvert replacement project on an unnamed stream, part of the extensive and important aquatic system that includes Dresden Bog, Mill Creek and Pinkham Pond, and crosses Bog Road just north of Dresden Bog. The stream supports a wide variety of fish species including alewives, brook trout, American eel and blue back herring and represents an important habitat in Lincoln County The Town of Whitefield will receive $74,600 for a project on Finn Brook, part of the Sheepscot River watershed, which crosses under Vigue Road via an undersized and deteriorated metal culvert. The culvert is rusted away at bottom of the outlet end to the extent that only the ribs remain; it is also shows signs of deflection along its length and a bulge protrudes inward at one point. There is also evidence of erosion of the road shoulders into the brook. Essentially, the crossing is at the end of its useful life and is in danger of failure. (Read More) Speed Management in Rural Communities Webinar Many rural communities have developed around highways or major county roads. As a result, the main street through these communities is often part of a high-speed rural highway. Highways and county roads are characterized by high speeds outside the city limits; they then transition into a reduced-speed section through the rural community. Consequently, drivers passing through the community often enter at high speeds and maintain those speeds as they travel through the community. (Read More) AquaVentus Maine In April 2016, New England Aqua Ventus I (the Project) entered a national competition with other offshore wind projects for the opportunity to receive $40 million in U.S. Department of Energy funding. The Project partners include Emera Inc., Cianbro Corporation, the University of Maine and UMaine’s Advanced Structures and Composites Center, and DCNS. Initially assembled by UMaine, this global consortium has formed a collaborative leadership team to develop, construct and operate this offshore wind project. It is expected that more than 25 other organizations will contribute to Project success. The site for this project has been chosen just off the coast of Monhegan Island.
